Amid rising India-Pakistan tensions, Pakistani actor Aijaz Aslam has landed in controversy after sharing a bold Instagram story mocking India's response to recent bans on Pakistani artists. This came just days after India restricted the social media accounts of several Pakistani celebrities, including Fawad Khan and Atif Aslam, following the Pahalgam terror attack.
Aijaz Aslam mocks India on Instagram
In a now-deleted Instagram story, Aijaz Aslam wrote, "Dear India, why are you behaving like a 5-year-old kid? Hamaray actors se itna dar gae tou hamari Pakistani Army se kya laro ge" — a remark that many Indian users found deeply offensive.
After receiving a flood of angry messages, Aijaz responded by sharing a video compiling screenshots of the backlash. He captioned it: “And this is how they responded to my old story.” The video has only added fuel to the fire, escalating the outrage on both sides of the border.
Tensions escalated further when India banned the release of Fawad Khan’s upcoming film Abir Gulaal, which also stars Vaani Kapoor. Following this, access to many Pakistani YouTube channels, television shows, and celebrities’ Instagram profiles was also restricted in India.
The action comes in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, which claimed the lives of 28 people. After the attack, the Indian entertainment industry has taken a firm stand against collaborating with Pakistani artists.
Ashoke Pandit, President of the Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association, shared his views in an interview with NDTV. He said, “This is an act of war against the nation. These attacks have been happening for 30 years. We’ve repeatedly requested not to work with Pakistani artists. National interest must come first.”
He further criticized the makers of Fawad's film, saying, “If one of the makers’ family members had died in the attack, they would’ve never worked with him.”
The rising bans have upset many Pakistani stars, who have taken to social media to express their disappointment. But Aijaz Aslam’s response stands out for its aggressive tone, which has only worsened the already fragile situation between both nations.
India-Pakistan entertainment relations grow colder
The entertainment relations between India and Pakistan have long been shaky, often influenced by political and military tensions. Now, with fresh bans, blocked content, and public spats, the gap seems to be widening once again.
As the situation unfolds, many are hoping for peace and maturity in dealing with sensitive matters that affect not just artists, but millions of fans on both sides.
