"Allu Arjun Calls Out Bollywood: ‘You’ve Forgotten How to Be Heroes
In a recent discussion, filmmaker Nikkhil Advani shared insights from Telugu superstar Allu Arjun about the current state of Bollywood. Allu Arjun, who gained widespread acclaim with his 2021 film Pushpa: The Rise, has expressed concerns about Bollywood's approach to storytelling. According to Nikkhil, Allu Arjun believes that Bollywood has "forgotten how to be heroes," suggesting that the industry has lost its way in creating compelling heroic narratives.
Nikkhil Advani noted that South Indian films often excel at capturing the essence of heroism, even in stories that might seem ordinary, such as those about water irrigation. These films effectively combine intense action and heroic moments, making them highly engaging for audiences.
Advani contrasted this with Bollywood’s past successes, citing films like Kaalia and Coolie, where Amitabh Bachchan's roles personified larger-than-life heroism. He also mentioned Shah Rukh Khan's performance in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, which, though unconventional, still showcased a strong heroic spirit.
Despite his critique, Allu Arjun has previously shown respect for Bollywood. He views actors from different Indian film industries as "brothers" and acknowledges the significant influence Bollywood has had on South cinema, recognizing its enduring legacy despite current challenges.
