The career of Cyrus Poonawalla has been anchored in a simple beginning, and later the stakes went higher. He hails from a family of horse breeders. He did his graduation as well as post-graduation from Pune University. It was in 1966 that he founded Serum Institute with a dream to produce quality vaccines in mass volumes with low prices, which soon gained international appreciation in 1994 when the WHO accorded the institute its approval that allowed Serum Institute to sell vaccines to these international organizations like UNICEF and PAHO.
This is when the institute's role became crucial as it began vaccinating the world in scale, and Poonawalla became a symbol of the face of global health progress.
