What is entertainment industry if there aren’t any controversy or publicity stunts every now and then? When it comes to over the top drama and controversies, Bollywood industry is known to remain in the top news.
Despite the world being hit by COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown, the bollywood industry managed to deliver maximum entertainment and drama throughout the year.

From Sushant Singh Rajput’s uncertain demise and Bollywood drug nexus coming into light to Kangana’s ugly twitter spat with Diljit Dosanjh and Bachchan’s battle with COVID-19, here’s a quick round up of the rather controversial and dramatic 2020.

#1 Deepika Padukone’s JNU controversy ahead of Chapaak’s release

If you just take a strol down the memory lane, you would realise that Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone kickstarted the year on a slightly jinxed note. Ever since the beginning of this year, Deepika Padukone is grabbing all the eyeballs for all the wrong reasons. Prior to the release of her movie Chapaak Deepika Padukone was spotted at a rally organized in a rather controversial education insitute Jawaharlal Nehru Unversity, Delhi. Deepika joined the JNU vigil to condemn the brutal attacks happened on JNU students.

#2 Paatal Lok controversy

One of the most controversial web-shows of 2020 that grabbed huge attention and controversies because of its content. One of the most outraged controversy with Paatal Lok was BJP MLA Nandkishor Gurjar’s who filed a complaint against producer Anushka Sharma for using his picture without consent. Another, was when Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee president Manjinder Singh Sirsa expressed his concern about the way Sikh characters were depicted in the show.

#3 Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, media circus and social media’s #JusticeForSSR

The entire nation as well as global fanbase of very talented bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput was saddened by the sudden demise of the actor. The 34-year-old actor breathed his last on 14th June 2020. As soon as the shocking news surfaced over the internet, his fans over the social media rose in uproar and started blaming Bollywood biggies Karan Johar, Salman Khan and others for running Nepotism and business.

A theory about the late actor suffering from depression had also surfaced since anti-depressants were reportedly found at his residence. The Kai Po Che! star Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide contriversy gave birth to never seen before media circus and ugly nepotism debate.

#4 Bollywood’s A listers being linked with drugs

Soon after the controversial suicide of Sushant Singh Rajput came into light, many notable bollywood celebs were summoned by the anti drug agency Narcotics Control Bureau. Not just Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty were arrested, several A-listers of the industry were also linked to the Bollywood drugs nexus case. The list included Sara Ali Khan, Deeika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Gabriella Demetriades, Karan Johar, Bharti Singh, Haarsh Limbachiya etc. and these celebs were summoned by the NCB for interrogation. The investigation is still on in the case.

#5 COVID-19 row in Bollywood

Accoring to Google, Kanika Kapoor became one of the most searched searched Bollywood celebrity in India according to Google, courtesy her much talked about Covid-19 diagnosis. She had tested positive shortly after she returned to India from London and had marked her presence at a few social gatherings.

Apart from Kanika Kapoor, bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya and Aaradhya Bachchan defeated the virus. While B-Town actors Varun Dhawan, Neetu Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Malaika Arora, Genelia D’Souza, Kriti Sanon also successfully recovered from COVID-19.

Kangana Ranaut’s controversy surrounding nepotism, Shiv Sena and Farmers’ Protest

Right after Sushant Singh Rajput’s death by suicide, Kangana Ranaut jumped on the bandwagon to demad justice for Sushant and eradicate nepotism from Bollywood. Kangana Ranaut managed to remain in the limelight as she took pangaa with Karan Johar, Javed Akhtar, Urmila Matondkar, Kareena Kapoor and Aamir Khan. Kangana called Ranbir Kapoor a ‘skirt chaser’ and wrote open letter to Saif Ali Khan.

Taking a dig at her, Anurag Kashyap had tweeted (September 17), “Sister, you alone are Manikarnika. Take four to five people with you and go take on China.” The Panga actress didn’t even spare jounalists and by the end of the year, Kangana Ranaut got involved in an ugly twitter spat with Diljit Dosanjh surrounding the ongoing farmers’ protests.
