A First Information Report has been filed in Mumbai against Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi. The actor shared a video on Instagram where he is seen riding a motorcycle without helmet and a face-mask. The video dates back to February 14, Valentine’s Day.
Wearing face mask in public place is mandatory for all citizens to contain the spread of novel coronavirus. However, in the video, the PM Narendra Modi actor is riding a motorcyle without helmet and face mask.
Vivek Oberoi flouts traffic rules
The Bollywood actor was penalised Rs 500 by the Mumbai traffic police because he did not follow the traffic rules while riding the motorcyle. According to a report in Indian Express, “An FIR has been registered against actor Vivek Oberoi for flouting public health safety rules mandated by the government which makes it mandatory for all citizens to wear a face-mask as a precautionary measure to control the outbreak of COVID-19. Action will be taken against the actor in this matter.”
On Friday, the Santacruz Division of Mumbai Traffic Police had sent an e-challan to Vivek for flouting traffic safety rules in the city.
The FIR was registered against him under IPC sections 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and269 (Negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) along with provisions of the Maharashtra COVID -19 Precautionary Measures 2020 and the Motor Vehicles Act, reports suggest.
Under both IPC sections 188 and 269, an offender can be punished with upto six months in jail or fine or both.
