As per industry tracker Sacnilk, GOAT has become the biggest Tamil film opener of 2024, earning approximately Rs 43 crore nett in India on its first day. The film, which was released in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, saw impressive occupancy rates, especially in Chennai.
Record-Breaking Opening Day Numbers
GOAT surpassed the opening day numbers of Indian 2, which earned Rs 25.6 crore, but fell short of Vijay’s previous blockbuster, Leo. Leo, which was one of the top hits of 2023, made Rs 63 crore nett on its opening day.
Impressive Theatre Occupancy
The Tamil version of GOAT recorded a remarkable 76.23 percent overall occupancy. In Chennai, the film had an impressive 99 percent occupancy across 1003 shows. Although there were expectations that GOAT might earn over Rs 100 crore globally on its opening day, the worldwide figures are still pending. As reported by Pinkvilla, the film’s gross domestic numbers stand at Rs 55 crore so far.
Special Screening and Future Prospects
Just before its release, GOAT was given special clearance in Tamil Nadu for 9 am shows, allowing for five screenings a day, with the last show ending around 2 am. However, this special privilege was granted only for the opening day.
GOAT is expected to be Vijay's second-to-last film before he transitions to politics after completing Thalapathy 69, directed by H Vinoth. The film is anticipated to see strong weekend collections, though it remains to be seen if it can surpass the box office success of Leo. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, GOAT also stars Prashanth, Sneha, Mohan, and Prabhu Deva.
