Golmaal 5 Confirmed: Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty Reunite for More Laughter

Ajay Devgn and renowned director Rohit Shetty have officially announced the return of the beloved Golmaal series with its fifth installment, Golmaal 5. Following the success of their action-packed venture, Singham Again, this lighthearted comedy marks a shift for both Shetty and Devgn, who are eager to revisit the genre that brought them immense popularity. Rohit Shetty confirmed in an interview with Pinkvilla that Golmaal 5 will indeed be his next big project.
During his interview, Shetty mentioned his desire to step back into comedy before taking on another action-packed film. “I think before any cop film for sure, Golmaal will be the next,” he shared, indicating a refreshing shift from the intense action for which he has recently become known. Ajay Devgn, who will reprise his iconic role as Gopal, echoed similar sentiments. Discussing the challenges of switching between genres, he explained, “I don’t have any problem shifting between genres. I am in my character between ‘action’ and ‘cut,’ but after that, I am just myself. If I was always in my character, I would go crazy.”
A Legacy of Laughter: The Golmaal Franchise
The Golmaal journey began in 2006 with Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, which introduced audiences to Gopal (played by Ajay Devgn) along with an ensemble cast including Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, and Sharman Joshi. With each sequel, the cast expanded, adding beloved actors such as Kareena Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Khemu, and Johnny Lever, all of whom contributed to the series’ continued success.
The fourth installment, Golmaal Again, released in 2017, saw fresh faces like Tabu and Parineeti Chopra joining the original cast, pushing the franchise to new heights. Despite competing with big releases like Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar, Golmaal Again became one of the highest-grossing films of that year, cementing its place in Bollywood's comedy legacy.
Ajay Devgn also discussed the rising trend of sequels and why they resonate so well with audiences. He remarked, “This is the time for sequels, and that’s happening because the audience is prepared to know what they are going to get in the film. The characters become relatable, and the audience is sure of what they will get on the big screen.” This connection to familiar characters is a driving factor in the anticipation surrounding Golmaal 5.

More Sequels in the Pipeline
In addition to Golmaal 5, Devgn hinted at upcoming sequels for other popular films such as De De Pyaar De, Son of Sardaar, and Dhamaal. The actor’s focus on sequels reflects a larger trend in Bollywood, where established franchises are thriving due to their strong fan bases and characters audiences feel attached to.
With Golmaal 5, Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty are poised to bring more laughter to fans. The Golmaal series has not only become a staple of Indian cinema but has also woven itself into the cultural fabric, offering comedic relief and laughter across generations. Fans can expect a fresh dose of humor and camaraderie, eagerly awaiting the return of Gopal and his gang to the big screen.
