As a child all the way to her teens, Neha used to sing bhajan-kirtans with her family. Her father owned a samosa stall outside a college in New Delhi to make ends meet. Her father, sister and brother are all musically inclined and used to do local performances together. Neha was a very popular singer in the jagran circuit and earned Rs 50 for every performance.

Indian Idol S2
When she was in class 11, Neha auditioned for Indian Idol season 2. “I want to be Indian Idol because the way the world is crazy about Abhijeet Sawant, I want to feel that craziness too. I want people to say, ‘Look at that girl! That’s Neha Kakkar!,” she said in a video clip from the show. However, she was eliminated after a few rounds.
Bollywood Breakthrough
Neha Kakkar had to wait for almost 7 years before getting a break in Bollywood with the song ‘Second Hand Jawaani’ in the movie Cocktail. Since then she has delivered many party hits like Sunny Sunny, London Thumakda, Kaala Chashma, Kargai Chull, Aankh Maarey, etc. She reportedly charges Rs 10-15 lakh per song and earns around Rs 30 Lakh per month from shows and performances.
Judging Indian Idol
Today, she herself is a judge on Indian Idol season 12. She reportedly charges Rs 5 lakh per episode of the show. A philanthropist by nature, Neha tries to help out struggling musicians who audition for the show.
