Abhijeet Sawant is one of the most successful Indian Idol winners till date. His statement on the show comes out after Kishore Kumar’s son Amit Kumar complained that he did not enjoy Indian Idol 12’s tribute episode to his father.
Abhijeet shared his feeling about the show saying that the creators unnecessarily dramatise the contestants background and milk all of the emotional potential from their stories possible. He compared the show to other regional shows too. “If you look at the regional reality shows, then the audience will hardly know about the background of the contestants. Their focus is only on singing, but in Hindi reality shows, the tragic and sad stories of contestants are redeemed. The focus is only on that,” said Sawant.
Abhijeet also recalled a incident from season 1 when he forgot the lyrics to the song he was performing and stopped mid-way. Nonetheless, the judges gave him another chance. He said that if something like this would have happened today, it would have been dramatised ten-fold.
Talking about the Kishore Kumar tribute episode, Sawant said it is unfair to compare anyone to Kishore Kumar. He said that all singers have their own style and are free to pay a tribute in their own unique way. Criticising the episode, Amit Kumar had said he didn’t enjoy it and wanted to stop it.
Aditya Narayan’s statement
Aditya Narayan, the show’s host also accepted in an interview that the alleged love-story between Pawandeep Rajan and Arunita Kanjilal on Indian Idol 12 is fake. So was his manufactured romance with judge Neha Kakkar last season. “We are not denying that it’s fake but the audience enjoys it and so do we. Hum masti karte hai. They are young people and if something does happen between them, they have our wishes, and if not, it’s their lives. Last season, when makers played around a love angle between Neha and me, people got offended as if they are our relatives. They don’t question actors who romance on screen on television serials. Similarly, we are all being entertainers and not our real selves on these shows too,” Aditya said.
