Kangana Ranaut Fires Back: CBFC Under Fire as Bombay HC Criticizes 'Emergency' Film Hold-Up
Kangana Ranaut, the popular actor and politician, has responded to the Bombay High Court's recent order regarding the delay in the clearance of her upcoming film, Emergency. The film, which was set to release on September 6, has faced a delay due to issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Kangana's Reaction to the Court Order
On Wednesday, Kangana took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express her thoughts on the situation. She shared a tweet from Live Law, stating, "High court has blasted censor for illegally withholding the certificate of #emergency." The Bombay High Court criticized the CBFC for holding back the film's certification, despite it being ready.

The Delay in 'Emergency's Release
Emergency was initially scheduled to hit theaters on September 6. However, the film's release has now been pushed back by two weeks. The high court has directed the CBFC to consider objections raised against the film and to certify it by September 18. This delay came after the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered the CBFC to review the objections before granting certification.
Bombay High Court's Stand
A division bench of Justices B P Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla accepted the producer's argument that the certificate was prepared but not issued. The court pointed out that the CBFC's claim of the certificate being unsigned was incorrect. However, due to the Madhya Pradesh High Court's directive, the Bombay High Court could not order the immediate issuance of the certificate.
Emergency, directed by Kangana Ranaut, has sparked controversy, particularly with Sikh organizations who have accused the film of misrepresentation and historical inaccuracies.
