Kerala Court Grants Anticipatory Bail to Mukesh and Edavela Babu in Shocking Sexual Assault Case
In a significant development, Malayalam actor-turned-politician Mukesh and actor Edavela Babu have been granted anticipatory bail by a court in Kochi. The bail was granted on Friday, September 6, following accusations of sexual assault. These accusations arose after the release of the Justice K. Hema Committee report on August 19, which highlighted the harsh working conditions faced by women in the Malayalam film industry.
Mukesh and Edavela Babu Face Allegations
The accusations were made by former Malayalam actress Minu Muneer, who filed an FIR against several prominent film personalities, including Mukesh, Jayasurya, and Edavela Babu. In her Facebook post, Minu detailed incidents of physical and verbal abuse she faced in 2013. She named seven individuals, alleging they were involved in the harassment.
Despite the abuse, Minu continued to work in the film industry until the situation became unbearable. Following her complaint, Mukesh called for a fair and transparent investigation into the allegations.
FIRs Filed Against Film Personalities
Kerala Police have registered FIRs against 11 individuals, most of whom are from the Malayalam film industry. The list includes popular actors such as Nivin Pauly, Siddique, and directors like Ranjith and V.K. Prakash. A special investigation team consisting of seven police officers is currently gathering statements from the victims.
Kerala High Court Takes Action
In response to these allegations, Kerala’s High Court has formed a special two-member bench to oversee the cases connected to the Justice K. Hema Committee report. The bench, headed by Justices A.K. Jayasankaran Nambiar and C.S. Sudha, will ensure a thorough analysis of the complaints made by the victims.
