Cha Joo Young, a rising star in the K-drama world, has become a topic of widespread discussion for her daring performances in hit series like The Glory and The Queen Who Crowns. Her bold roles, including topless scenes, have not only drawn public attention but also sparked conversations about the creative choices behind these moments.

Behind the Scenes of The Glory

In The Glory, Cha Joo Young portrayed Choi Hye Jeong, a character with a striking personality. One scene in particular, where the actress appeared topless, became a viral sensation. Addressing the buzz, Cha Joo Young revealed in an interview that CGI was used to align with the character’s backstory.

“Hye Jeong herself made it clear she had breast augmentation surgery, but I haven’t had that. People are curious about whether CG was involved in that scene,” Cha explained.

She added that both a body double and CGI were used strategically. While her back was shown using a double, the topless shot featured her body with some enhancements made using computer graphics.

A Bold Start with The Queen Who Crowns

Cha Joo Young returned to the spotlight with another bold performance in the historical K-drama The Queen Who Crowns. The series premiered with two versions of its first two episodes: a PG-15 version and a 19+ version. In the latter, Queen Wongyeong, played by Cha Joo Young, shares an intimate scene with King Taejong, portrayed by Lee Hyun Wook.

The scene, which featured Cha topless again, left viewers speculating whether CGI had been used, given her previous statements about The Glory. Shortly after the episodes aired, @style confirmed that CGI editing had been employed for the scene in The Queen Who Crowns.

According to reports, the production team decided to use CGI to emphasize the emotional connection and marital dynamics between Queen Wongyeong and King Taejong, rather than focusing solely on physicality.

Record-Breaking Success for The Queen Who Crowns

Thanks to its engaging storyline and high production quality, The Queen Who Crowns made a remarkable debut. The premiere achieved a nationwide viewership rating of 5.1%, making it the first weekday tvN K-drama to surpass 5% since January 2024. By Episode 4, the series had broken its own record, reaching an impressive 5.6% average rating.

With Cha Joo Young’s fearless approach to acting and the drama’s captivating plot, The Queen Who Crowns continues to gain traction among K-drama fans worldwide.
