(G)I-DLE’s Soyeon Slams Idol Dating Ban: “Love Is as Natural as Breathing”

(G)I-DLE’s Soyeon is once again making headlines—not for her music this time, but for her bold opinion on the K-pop industry’s harsh expectations. In a recent variety show appearance with SE SO NEON’s Soyoon, the rapper and producer didn’t hold back as she addressed how Korean celebrities are judged for simply living like normal adults.

During the candid talk, Soyeon of (G)I-DLE shared her frustration over how adult K-pop idols face hate for smoking or drinking, even though these actions are completely legal. She said, “Smoking isn’t illegal. Adults can smoke, adults can drink.” Her comments showed her clear support for artists who are unfairly criticized by fans or media for doing things that are socially accepted.

Soyeon’s perspective was supported by Soyoon, who also expressed concern over the unrealistic standards placed on celebrities. Both artists agreed that idols should be allowed to date freely, just like anyone else.

Idols and dating: Soyeon says love is natural

The topic of dating in K-pop is always controversial. Soyeon pointed out how idols are often told they “can’t date” because it might upset fans. She disagreed with this mindset, stating, “If someone wants to date, they should.” Soyoon also added that love is as natural as eating or breathing and shouldn’t be something idols need to hide.

However, Soyeon made it clear that dating openly in the K-pop world comes with risks. She said, “They don’t have to hide it. But if they don’t, they need to be prepared for the consequences.” This comment reflects the tough choice K-pop stars must make—hide their relationships or face backlash from fans.

At one point, Soyeon admitted the situation feels unfair. She acknowledged that some artists want to maintain their fanbase while also being in love, but in reality, that balance is hard to achieve. She described this desire as “selfish,” but not in a negative way—more as a realistic acknowledgment of how intense fan expectations can be.

Soyeon’s bold stand sparks conversation

This isn’t the first time (G)I-DLE’s Soyeon has spoken up on sensitive topics. Known for her fearless attitude, she’s quickly becoming a voice for K-pop idols who want more freedom and respect. Her recent comments have once again opened up a conversation about the pressures celebrities face in the Korean entertainment industry.

As fans react to her honest words, it’s clear that Soyeon is not afraid to challenge the status quo—and that may just be what makes her one of the most respected voices in K-pop today.
