Fake aunt will eventually be identified: Kim Soo Hyun’s lawyer responds
Actor Kim Soo Hyun has finally addressed the rumors surrounding unpaid court fees in his legal battle against the family of the late actress Kim Sae Ron and the Garosero Research Institute, also known as HoverLab. The actor’s legal team shared a clear statement on April 19, confirming that all fees linked to the case have been fully settled.
The case, which was officially filed in March, involves a damages lawsuit of around 12 billion KRW (approximately $8.76 million). The latest update clarifies that just over 38 million KRW (about $26,790) in court fees have been completely paid by Kim Soo Hyun’s side, dismissing recent media claims suggesting otherwise.
Kim Soo Hyun’s Legal Battle: What's the Case About?
During a press briefing, Kim Soo Hyun addressed the sensitive matter. He explained that his relationship with Kim Sae Ron began only after she reached adulthood and lasted about a year. He also accused her family of manipulating KakaoTalk messages, presenting edited versions that misrepresented the timeline of their relationship. A forensic analysis supported his claim, showing that the alleged messages were not from him.
This statement was released shortly after the Seoul Central District Court issued a correction order, which had earlier led to speculation. Things escalated when Kim’s legal team requested an extension on April 16. However, his lawyer clarified that the extension was only a procedural step meant to confirm the identities and addresses of the defendants.
Among the individuals involved is someone referred to as the “fake aunt.” Her exact identity remains unknown, and she has reportedly been criminally charged. Kim’s attorney shared that they are still unable to confirm her name, contact information, or national ID number. However, authorities are expected to track her through call records and investigation data from other related parties.
Though a specific date for the first hearing has not been announced yet, it is expected that the civil case will progress alongside the ongoing criminal investigation.
