What Did Kumar Vishwas Say About Sonakshi Sinha That Sparked Controversy? Full Statement Here

This famous poet, Kumar Vishwas, was criticized for his statements on a Meerut poetry meet, which many feel is an indirect attack on the actress Sonakshi Sinha and her father, former Union Minister and TMC MP Shatrughan Sinha. His comments have brought criticism, especially from the Congress leader Supriya Shrinate, who has called for an apology.

What Did Kumar Vishwas Say?

At the fair, he asked parents to educate children about Indian epics, such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata. He said in jest: "Teach your children about the sisters of Sita and brothers of Ram. Otherwise, even if your home has a name like 'Ramayan, your Lakshmi can be taken by someone else."

He never took anyone's name in that statement but was broadly attributed to an allusion that he had with respect to Shatrughan Sinha's Mumbai residence, titled "Ramayan", and the recent interfaith marriage between Sonakshi and Zaheer Iqbal.

Social Media Backlash

A video clip of the comment is going viral, evoking hot debates. The Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate condemned Vishwas for his statement and stated that, "Referring to a woman as property that one could 'take away' indicates the regressive mindset that exists within you. That's not just an attack on Sonakshi but all the women. You ought to apologize to both father and daughter."

Previous Controversies

This is not the first time Sonakshi Sinha has been under fire for her alleged lack of knowledge about Indian mythology. In 2019, she got a question about the Ramayana wrong on Kaun Banega Crorepati. Actor Mukesh Khanna had criticized her at the time too, later clarifying that he had said it to spread awareness about culture and not to hurt anyone.

Congress Seeks Answers

She also added, "You are misusing Ramayana to seek cheap applause while running down women. Your words betray a lack of comprehension of the epics you proclaim to teach. Women are not objects, and your words are laced with a deeply patriarchal mindset."

Mukesh Khanna's past comments

Mukesh Khanna faced similar backlash for his remarks on Sonakshi’s upbringing. He later issued a clarification, saying his criticism aimed to highlight the youth’s lack of cultural knowledge rather than insult her family.
