Mere Husband Ki Biwi Set Collapse: Arjun Kapoor, Jackky Bhagnani Injured; FWICE Raises Safety Alarm

Mumbai witnessed a tragic accident on Saturday as the ceiling of the set for the film Mere Husband Ki Biwi collapsed, injuring multiple individuals, including actor Arjun Kapoor, director Mudassar Aziz, and producer Jackky Bhagnani. Thankfully, no major fatalities were reported. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a statement addressing the incident and raised concerns about safety standards in the film industry.
FWICE Raises Alarm Over Industry Safety
BN Tiwari, president of FWICE, confirmed that the accident could have been far worse. “There have been no major injuries. Kuch bhi ho sakta tha, par shukr hai kisi ko kuch zyada laga nahi (Anything could have happened, but thankfully no one was seriously injured),” he stated. The shoot has been halted following the incident.
Tiwari emphasized that the lack of maintenance led to the collapse. “The studio's foundations are old, and no structural audit has been conducted. There’s no proper fire safety or exit gates. The entire film industry is running on the support of God, but how long will God continue to watch?” he remarked.
Appeal to Authorities for Action
The FWICE has written letters to the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, urging them to address safety and maintenance issues across the film industry. They have also reached out to Film City management, requesting immediate structural audits to prevent further accidents.
“These incidents happen often but rarely come to light. Compensation is given, and the matter is buried. Many don’t even report problems for fear of losing their jobs,” Tiwari added. He criticized studio owners for neglecting maintenance while continuing to book shoots.
Impact on Film Productions
The accident has raised concerns about Mumbai’s reputation as a hub for film production. Tiwari warned, “If the government doesn’t take action, film shoots will move out of Mumbai.”
Mere Husband Ki Biwi, starring Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, and Rakul Preet Singh, has not yet resumed production. Neither the actors nor the producers have commented on the incident so far.
This unfortunate event highlights the urgent need for improved safety standards in India’s film industry, ensuring the well-being of all workers involved.
