Puri Jagannadh’s Double iSmart Hits OTT Just 21 Days After Theatrical Release – What’s the Buzz?

Double iSmart

Puri Jagannadh’s latest film, Double iSmart, is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The film, which hit theaters on August 15, has made its way to the OTT platform without much fanfare. Featuring Ram Pothineni, Sanjay Dutt, and Kavya Thapar in the lead roles, Double iSmart received a lukewarm response during its theatrical run.

Double iSmart OTT Release Details

Double iSmart is now streaming on Prime Video in its original Telugu language, as well as in Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. The release was announced quietly on September 5 by both the streaming service and the film's producers, Puri Connects. It remains uncertain if a Hindi version will be released later.

Plot and Reception

In Double iSmart, the character iSmart Shankar (played by Ram Pothineni) faces new challenges as a dying gangster, Big Bull (Sanjay Dutt), seeks immortality by transferring his memories. This film is a sequel to the 2019 hit iSmart Shankar, where the protagonist was initially experimented upon by the government.

Despite the original film’s success, Double iSmart did not meet expectations. The sequel has been criticized for its sexist themes and weak comedic elements, particularly in Ali’s track. The film also failed to impress with Mani Sharma’s music.

Struggles of Puri Jagannadh and Ram Pothineni

Both director Puri Jagannadh and actor Ram Pothineni have struggled to achieve box office success recently. After iSmart Shankar, Puri directed the 2022 film Liger, which was poorly received. Ram’s recent films, including Red, The Warriorr, and Skanda, also failed to make an impact, despite him playing dual roles in some. His next project will be with Rukmini Vasanth.
