Pushpa 2 Screening Stampede Case: Allu Arjun Released After Jail Stay

Telugu superstar Allu Arjun has been released from Chanchalguda prison after spending a night behind bars following his arrest in connection with the tragic stampede during the screening of his latest film, Pushpa 2. Despite securing interim bail on Friday, procedural delays meant the actor’s release was deferred until Saturday morning. The Pushpa 2 screening stampede case has sparked widespread concern and legal scrutiny.
Pushpa 2 Screening Stampede Case: High Court Grants Interim Bail
The Telangana High Court granted Allu Arjun interim bail for four weeks on Friday, requiring him to provide a surety of ₹50,000. However, as the bail documents reached the jail authorities late in the night, the actor had to remain in custody overnight. Prison regulations prohibit the release of inmates after dark.
Allu Arjun’s arrest followed a stampede at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad during the premiere of Pushpa 2 on December 4. The tragedy resulted in the death of a 39-year-old woman, M Revathi, and left her nine-year-old son critically injured.
A case was filed at the Chikkadapally police station against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the Sandhya Theatre management. The charges include culpable homicide not amounting to murder and voluntarily causing hurt. M Revathi’s husband, M Bhaskar, lodged the complaint, alleging negligence that led to the fatal incident.
Police stated that Allu Arjun’s actions contributed to the chaos. According to their statement, the actor arrived at the theatre, waved to fans from his vehicle’s sunroof, and stayed at the venue for over two hours, despite warnings about the large crowd. His private security team’s handling of the situation reportedly exacerbated the crowd’s movement, culminating in the tragic stampede.
The Sandhya Theatre management claimed they had formally requested police presence for crowd control during the premiere. However, the police countered that while they receive numerous such requests daily, the organisers failed to follow up in person or escalate their request to ensure priority handling.
In a detailed statement, police clarified that adequate bandobast was in place but blamed Arjun’s actions for the unfortunate incident. They emphasized that despite the crowd’s enthusiasm, better coordination and compliance with safety protocols might have prevented the tragedy.
