Rani Mukerji Birthday: From Hum Tum to Black, TOP 5 movies of the versatile actress

Rani Mukerji has contributed largely to the Indian film industries with her stellar performance. Her fierce yet poised movie characters have been a large part of every 90s kid’s growing up years. Movies like Yuva, Hey Ram, Hichki, Mehandi, Black, are something that we grew up watching.

Born on March 21, Rani Mukerji is celebrating her 43rd birthday on Sunday. Rani hails from a fil-oriented family because her father was a director. On the other hand, her mother Krishna was a playback singer.

The ‘Mardaani’ actress started her acting career with Biyer Phool, a Bengali film back in 1996. However, her first Bollywood movie remains to be Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat which released the same year.

While the actress started her Bollywood career in 1996 but her first commercial success came in 1998 with Ghulam. In this war-based drama, Rani starred opposite Aamir Khan. With this successful movie, Rani left her audience as well as critics impressed. But her major breakthrough movie was 1998 movie Kuch Hota Hai.

Karan Johar marked his directorial debut with the movie. Besides Rani, the film also starred Kajol, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan in lead roles. Rani received her first Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Mukerji married filmmaker Aditya Chopra on April 21, 2014 in a private ceremony in Italy.

Saathiya

Saathiya was a remake of Tamil movie Alaipayuthey. Rani played the role of a strong, career-oriented woman with an emotional nature. She studies hard to achieve her dream of becoming a doctor. However, she falls in love with Adi (Vivek Oberoi). Rani did justice to the character. Her struggles and problems felt extremely real on screen. The movie was an instant hit and earned Rani the Filmfare Best Actress and a Filmfare Best actress nomination.

Hum Tum

Kunal Kohli directorial, Hum Tum featured Rani as a bubbly, chirpy and eventually a very setious Rhea. Rani has easily and effectively portrayed various phases of a woman’s life. Rani won the Award for the Best Actress for this movie.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

One of the most acclaimed movies of Bollywood industry, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai featured Rani as a chic, fashionable and trendsetter woman. With her amazing fashion picks, Rani created a wave among college going-girls in late 90s era. From orange co-ords to shimmery dress and dreamy shiffon sarees, Rani Mukerji’s outfits in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai remained top fashion trend for years.

Bunty Aur Babli

Starring Rani Mukerji and Abhishek Bachchan in the lead roles and Amitabh Bachchan in a supporting role, Bunty Aur Babli received heavy applauds from audience as well as critics. Shaad Ali directorial con-comedy earned critical and commercial success.

Black

One of the best movies made in Bollywood, Black starred Rani and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead roles. Rani essayed the charater of Michelle McNally who is a deaf and blind woman. The film received widespread critical acclaim for its direction and performances.
