Ranveer Allahbadia’s “Sex With Parents” Remark Reaches Parliament: What’s Next?

YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia is under fire for his controversial remarks on the roast show ‘India’s Got Latent.’ Despite issuing a public apology, the backlash continues to grow, leading to legal action, political involvement, and widespread social media outrage.

Parliamentary Panel May Summon Ranveer Allahbadia

The controversy has reached the political sphere, with multiple MPs expressing concerns over the content shared on digital platforms. A Parliamentary panel on information technology is now discussing whether to summon Ranveer Allahbadia for questioning. The committee may issue a notice seeking his explanation regarding the remarks made during the show.

Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi of Shiv Sena (UBT) has vowed to raise the issue in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting's Standing Committee. She criticized the use of abusive language in comedy and highlighted Allahbadia’s influence, stating, "With millions of subscribers and high-profile political figures on his podcast, he must be held accountable."

Multiple police complaints have been filed in Mumbai and Guwahati against Ranveer Allahbadia, along with comedian Samay Raina, influencer Apoorva Mukhija, and others associated with the controversial episode.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that an FIR has been registered in the state, naming Allahbadia, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, comedian Jaspreet Singh, and others for allegedly promoting obscenity and vulgar discussions.

Mumbai Police are also investigating the matter, with several complaints lodged against Allahbadia, who boasts 4.5 million Instagram followers and 10.5 million YouTube subscribers. Authorities have called both Allahbadia and Raina for questioning, and a Mumbai Police team visited Allahbadia’s residence as part of the ongoing probe.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis Responds

Amid escalating backlash, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis acknowledged the controversy and stressed the importance of responsible content creation. He stated, "Freedom of speech has its limits. If anyone crosses those limits, action will be taken."

The controversy stems from an episode of ‘India’s Got Latent’ hosted by Samay Raina, where Ranveer Allahbadia asked a contestant, "Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?" The offensive question left both the audience and fellow content creators stunned.

Following severe criticism, Allahbadia issued a public apology, acknowledging that his comment was inappropriate and not even humorous. In a video statement, he said, "Comedy is not my forte, and I deeply regret what I said. I had a lapse in judgment, and it wasn’t cool on my part." He further emphasized that this is not how he intends to use his platform.

The controversy has fueled broader discussions about crass content in comedy shows and the responsibility of digital influencers. Singer B Praak, who was scheduled to appear on Allahbadia’s show, has canceled his participation and urged comedians to be more mindful of their content.

As legal proceedings unfold and public scrutiny intensifies, the future of Ranveer Allahbadia’s digital presence remains uncertain. With mounting pressure from authorities and influencers alike, this controversy is set to have lasting implications on YouTube and online content creation in India.
