During an alleged brawl over taking a selfie with the famous singer when he was performing at a live performance in the district of Chembur on Monday (Feb. 20) night, Sonu Nigam and his entourage were reportedly manhandled. A man named Swapnil Prakash Phaterpekar attacked the singer and his crew as they were giving a performance at the music festival while the man approached the artist to grab a selfie with him. After a fight, at least two of Sonu Nigam’s coworkers were hurt when they went down the steps. According to accounts, the concert fighting left Sonu’s guru Ghulam Mustafa Khan’s son and his close friend Rabbani Khan, as well as his bodyguard, with some minor wounds.
After the singer went to the police, a FIR was filed against a man for intentionally inflicting harm, wrongful restraint, and other offences related to the altercation. On the basis of the complaint made by musician Sonu Nigam, the case has been filed under IPC sections 323 (Punishment for Voluntarily Causing Harm), 341 (Wrongful Retention), and 337 (Causing Harm by Act Endangering Life or Personal Safety of Others).
After the concert, as I was leaving the stage, a man named Swapnil Prakash Phaterpekar grabbed hold of me, according to Sonu. Then, as Hari and Rabbani arrived to save me, he shoved them. Then I tripped over some stairs. If there had been some iron rods laying around, Rabbani (the hurt person who was with Sonu) may have passed away today.
He was pushed in this manner, as evidenced by the video… Even I was on the verge of collapsing. I filed a complaint so that people think about the consequences when they try to aggressively take a selfie or a picture; there was a commotion, dhakka mukki, and arrogance.”
“After the live show, Sonu Nigam was walking down from the stage when a man held him,” DCP Hemrajsingh Rajput informed reporters. He pushed Sonu Nigam and two other guys from the steps after they objected, and one of those two individuals was injured. Swapnil Phaterpekar is the accused’s name. Rabbani has been identified as the injured.” So far, no arrests have been made by the police.
According to officials, the event occurred during Sonu Nigam’s exit from the stage during a concert in Mumbai’s Chembur district. According to sources, the accused is the son of a local MLA. “When the struggle between him and Sonu Nigam’s security broke out, he (accused) allegedly rushed out to the singer for a selfie,” they added.
In response to reports of ‘Sonu being attacked by some individuals,’ DCP Rajput stated, “I spoke with Sonuji. We have yet to come across any such evidence. The accused may have wanted to take a selfie or gain some media attention… We would conduct additional research to determine the cause.”
Shiv Sena (UBT) politician Priyanka Chaturvedi told ANI that a local MLA’s son attempted to approach Sonu Nigam after his performance for a selfie, but Sonu Nigam’s bodyguard stopped him because he didn’t know who he was.
“Later, there was a minor scuffle between the Bodyguard and the MLA’s son, which resulted in one or two persons falling from the platform. Meanwhile, the MLA’s daughter, an ex-BMC corporater, intervened and stopped them. The injured were transferred to the hospital. So it’s not an assault, is it?
