Tamil Film Industry Under Fire After Sexual Harassment Allegations, Actress Sanam Shetty Speaks Out

In the wake of the explosive Justice Hema Committee report highlighting the rampant sexual exploitation in the Malayalam film industry, Tamil actress and Bigg Boss Tamil alum Sanam Shetty has made serious allegations against the Tamil film industry. She claims that sexual harassment is pervasive not only for women but also for men within the industry.

Speaking outside the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office on Tuesday, Shetty expressed her concerns in response to the Justice Hema Committee report, which has sent shockwaves through the South Indian film community. The report, which focused on the dire conditions faced by actresses in the Malayalam cinema, described an environment where sexual exploitation is rampant and junior artists and crew members face appalling treatment.

Sanam Shetty, a well-known figure in Tamil cinema, echoed these concerns, stating that the Tamil film industry is no different. "The exploitation is widespread, and what I am sharing comes from my own experiences," Shetty remarked. Her statements have further ignited discussions about the treatment of women and men in the film industry.

The Justice Hema Committee report, which scrutinized the Malayalam film industry, shed light on the harrowing conditions faced by women. The report accused the industry of perpetuating a culture of abuse and neglect, particularly towards actresses. Despite being home to legendary stars like Mohanlal, Mammootty, Dulquer Salmaan, and Fahadh Faasil, the Malayalam industry is now under intense scrutiny for its treatment of women and junior artists, who are reportedly treated worse than animals.

Sanam Shetty’s bold accusations have added fuel to an already burning issue, prompting calls for deeper investigations into the Tamil film industry’s practices. Her statement has drawn attention to the need for comprehensive reforms across all South Indian film industries to protect the rights and dignity of those working in them.

As these allegations come to light, the entertainment industry faces increasing pressure to address and rectify these systemic issues. The revelations have sparked a broader conversation about the safety and well-being of actors and crew members, pushing for accountability and change in an industry that has long been criticized for its treatment of women and vulnerable individuals.

With the Justice Hema Committee’s findings serving as a catalyst, the Tamil film industry may soon face a reckoning similar to that which is unfolding in Malayalam cinema. The public and industry stakeholders alike are awaiting further developments as calls for justice and reform grow louder.
