IND vs SL: Deepak Chahar and Surya Kumar Yadav’s maiden half-centuries led India to a three-wicket triumph against Sri Lanka in the second one-day international on Tuesday, giving India an unassailable 2-0 series lead.
Sri Lanka made a challenging 275 for 9 in 50 overs after winning the toss and batting first.
India responded by reaching 277 for 7 with five deliveries remaining.
During their pursuit, India lost seven wickets for 193 runs and appeared to be on the verge of losing.
But Chahar combined with Bhuvneshwar Kumar (19 not out) for an unbeaten 84-run eighth-wicket stand to ensure victory.
Deepak Chahar, who was playing his fifth ODI, was undefeated on 69 off 82 deliveries, with seven boundaries and one six.
Chahar also becomes player of the match after taking two wickets for 53 runs in eight overs in Sri Lanka’s innings.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled 10 overs and took 3-54.
Suryakumar Yadav also scored his first half-century for India in an ODI.
Six boundaries were among his 53 runs off 44 deliveries.
