At least 17 people, including 15 women, died in a major fire incident at an industrial plant in Maharashtra’s Pirangut on June 7, 2021.

The SVS Acqua Technologies plant where this fire incident took place is located around 16 km from Pune, in Pirangut’s Urawade village.

According to the revenue authorities, all the victims were trapped inside the SVS Acqua Technologies plant when the fire broke out following a blast in a machine.

SVS Acqua Technologies manufactures, supplies, and exports air, water, and surface treatment chemicals and solutions. All the victims were hired by the company from a nearby village, Munshi Taluka.

Senior police and revenue officers reached the spot besides three fire-fighting tenders deployed by the MIDC fire brigade.

The rescue team had to break the walls, as the interior of the plant was inaccessible from outside. However, by this time, all the victims trapped inside the plant had already been engulfed by the blaze.
