3.8 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Gujarat’s Kutch, Centered Near Dudhai
On Saturday, January 4, 2025, a 3.8 magnitude earthquake hit Gujarat's Kutch district at 4:37 PM. The tremors were centered near Dudhai. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage. Just a few days earlier, on New Year's Day, Kutch experienced a 3.2 magnitude earthquake with its epicenter located 23 kilometers north-northeast of Bhachau.

According to the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR), Kutch and its surrounding areas have been witnessing frequent seismic activity in the past few weeks. On December 23, 2024, a 3.7 magnitude quake was reported in the district, followed by a 3.2 magnitude tremor on December 7. Earlier, on November 18, Kutch witnessed a 4.0 magnitude earthquake, while North Gujarat's Patan district recorded a 4.2 magnitude quake on November 15.
Gujarat: A High-Risk Earthquake Zone
Gujarat is a high-risk earthquake zone. According to the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA), the state has witnessed nine major earthquakes in the last 200 years. The most destructive was the 2001 Kutch earthquake, which was India's third-largest in two centuries and left nearly 13,800 dead and 1.67 lakh injured.
Recent Earthquake in Nepal
Two days ago, on January 2, 2025, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit northern Nepal. The earthquake's epicenter is reported to be 70 kilometers north of the capital city of Kathmandu in Sindhupalchowk district. This is the ninth earthquake in Nepal with magnitude 3 or higher in the last 20 days, which only indicates the extent of seismic activities in the region.
