A terrible accident occurred yesterday night wherein five MBBS students met their death, as a car collided with Kerala State Road Transport Corporation's bus. The accident took place last night near Alappuzha at around 9 PM and has shocked one and all in the community. Among the dead are five first-year Vandanam Medical College MBBS students.

Victims who are identified as Mohammed, Muhasin, Ibrahim, Devanand, and Shreedeep were travelling in a Chevrolet Tavera car. The seven students, traveling at a very high speed, were reportedly attempting to overtake another vehicle. But the car skidded all of a sudden, resulting in a head-on collision with the KSRTC bus from Guruvayur towards Kayamkulam.

The car was literally wrecked due to extreme violence, with broken glass and twisted metal. First responders rushed to the wrecked car and managed to pull out the victims before rushing them to the hospitals. The three of the five students died instantly, but two more succumbed en route to the hospital. The surviving students were rushed to Alappuzha Medical College for proper treatment.

Four other passengers on the bus, including MBBS students, suffered minor injuries. These are said to be in stable condition. The bus and the car collided with each other, the bonnet of the former dented and the latter badly damaged beyond recognition.

The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained by the authorities. Initial reports indicate that the vehicle was traveling at a very high speed and lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle. The authorities have assured an inquiry into the incident.
