7 Maoists Killed in Encounter with Police in Telangana's Mulugu District
In a major breakthrough, seven Maoists were killed in an encounter with police in Telangana's Mulugu district on [date] morning. The face-off occurred in the thick Chalpak forests area, which has been the hub of Maoist activity. This incident comes within a week when two tribal men were allegedly murdered by Maoists for being suspected police informers.
Bhadru, 35-year-old area committee commander of Yellandu-Narsampet was among those killed in the encounter. Other Maoists reported in the operation included Egolapu Mallaiah (43), Mussaki Deval (22), Mussaki Jamuna (23), Jaisingh (25), Kishore (22), and Kamesh (23). The group of Maoists was well equipped with AK-47 rifles, G3 rifles, and INSAS rifles along with other weapons that they used while firing back at police forces.
The police operation, in which the Maoists have been successfully neutralized, comes as part of the Telangana efforts at fighting Maoist insurgency within the state. The region, especially Mulugu, has been known for the Maoist presence and activity. There have been regular encounters between security forces and Maoist groups.
This incident also occurred subsequent to two tribal men killing, reported to be by the Maoists in the same district, who were accused to be acting as informants for the police. Those violent incidents have heightened tension in the area and tightened security by the police.
According to the police, they appreciated the operation by declaring that the effective eradication of these armed Maoists dealt a crucial blow to the insurgent forces. In addition, officials have further said that with weapons seized from Maoists, for some time their operation would be halted in this area.
