Cabinet Approves 85 New Kendriya Vidyalayas, 28 Navodaya Schools, Green Lights Delhi Metro Phase 4

The Indian Cabinet, under the leadership of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, has approved the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas and 28 new Navodaya Vidyalayas to cater to growing educational needs, especially in remote areas. The new schools will adhere to the government's National Education Policy and are part of the larger effort to improve the country's education system.

In a major step to upgrade India's educational infrastructure, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Friday, December 6, 2024, that the Cabinet has approved the opening of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country. Currently, there are 1,256 operational Kendriya Vidyalayas, including three international ones in Moscow, Kathmandu, and Tehran, catering to approximately 13.56 lakh students. The new schools will begin supporting the ever-increasing demand for quality education, and the PM SHRI scheme, part of the National Education Policy, will be implemented in these institutions.

Moreover, the Cabinet has approved the opening of 28 new Navodaya Vidyalayas in underserved districts, and a total amount of ₹2,359.82 crore is allocated for the construction and operation of these institutions from 2024 to 2029. The new schools are expected to bring quality education to the children in the remote areas.

Transport: Vaishnaw disclosed that the Cabinet has also approved the expansion of the Delhi Metro in its Phase 4. This includes the 26.46 km stretch of the Rithala-Kundli Corridor, which is aimed to improve connectivity between Delhi and the neighboring state of Haryana. The project will boast 21 elevated stations that will further enhance access to the north-western parts of Delhi, including Narela, Bawana, and Rohini. The expansion will give the city's growing metro network an added boost, which has expanded threefold over the past decade.
