Union Cabinet Approves the 8th Central Pay Commission
Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the commission that would soon be followed by the appointment of a chairman along with two members. These key appointments will lead the commission's work in analyzing and recommending new revisions with regard to their salaries, allowances, and pension structures of employees under Central Government.
This would involve massive consultation with a range of stakeholders- Centre, State Governments, and Public Sector Undertakings - as part of the mandate to the commission, thereby ensuring the 8th Pay Commission's recommendations are holistic in nature, meeting the economic requirements and problems in different sectors.
It comes at a time when the employees of the Central Government have long awaited news on the reforms that would revamp their salaries. The 8th Pay Commission is expected to bring clarity on wage hikes and ensure that government salaries align with inflation rates and current economic realities.
Further details regarding the timeline of the commission's work and the scope of its recommendations await. As the government is committed towards equitable compensation, the 8th Pay Commission is expected to bring about significant changes in public sector employment in India.
