Yogi Adityanath defends VP Dhankhar, slams opposition with impeachment threats against truth tellers

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has come out in support of the Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who finds himself facing an impeachment motion by the Congress-led Opposition INDIA bloc. Speaking at the World Hindu Economic Forum in Mumbai, Adityanath criticized the political opposition for trying to silence those who speak the truth, labeling it as an old tactic used by the Congress party. He said that "whoever speaks the truth in India is threatened with impeachment," which is an ongoing political struggle.

The impeachment motions against Dhankhar and Allahabad High Court Judge Shekhar Yadav are part of a pattern of political pressure, he said. He pointed out the need to stand for constitutional values while criticizing the opposition for double standards: they do impeach but only the truth-tellers. He further asserted that the act of a judge advocating for a Uniform Civil Code, like Justice Yadav, cannot be criminalized. He argued that it must be respected as opinion considering the need of the society that varies with the passage of time.

The UP Chief Minister also spoke about Vice President Dhankhar's background, claiming that the opposition was disturbed by his background as the son of a farmer, and that this was the reason why the opposition was accusing him of being biased while presiding over the Rajya Sabha. He stated that Dhankhar's impartiality was being doubted by the opposition, and that this was a way of attacking him personally for his background rather than anything he had done professionally.

In his speech, Adityanath accused the Congress of having a history of undermining the Constitution. He said that it was the party's "old habit" to target anyone who challenges their narrative. His remarks come amid increasing political polarization, with the opposition accusing the ruling party of using the Constitution for partisan advantage, while the BJP leadership continues to defend its policies and leadership.
