In a recent incident at AIIMS Raebareli, a critically ill patient reportedly waited in an ambulance for hours outside the emergency services entrance, while pleas from his family members to admit him went unanswered. Frustrated and desperate, the patient's family eventually reached out to a member of the RSS district committee for assistance.

The RSS official continues making calls to the Executive Director, Dr. Arvind Rajvanshi, of AIIMS Raebareli but still could not coax him to intervene in the situation. The official sent three voice messages requesting urgent help. When finally, Dr. Rajvanshi picked up the call, the answer reportedly shocked the officials present. Sources say that he questioned, "What is this RSS?" and added, "Modi has instructed that we should not answer calls from unknown numbers.".

There is a sharp criticism of the response by Dr. Rajvanshi, as he stands to be questioned by credentials of his very sensitiveness and leadership style. Dr. Rajvanshi, an authoritarian at work, has crossed swords with the High Court in the past while under legal scrutiny for himself. Lack of empathy and abysmal management practices have been reportedly evident under Dr. Rajvanshi's leadership at AIIMS Raebareli; complaints over time have indeed gone up.

Patient Panna Lal was said to have a very serious illness and, unconscious, was brought to AIIMS Raebareli. Hours went by in the ambulance, and he remained waiting there for admission in the hospital- although absolutely necessary, it mattered not. Desperate, his family turned to the contact in need of help: an RSS worker and a district head of education, Nirankar Shukla. In the video, after Shukla introduces himself as an RSS man, Dr. Rajvanshi reportedly shrugged off the reply and told him he was directed not to answer calls from numbers that were not known.

Shukla expressed amazement and disappointment at the reaction of the executive director saying he was shocked to hear such words from a leader at a premier institution like AIIMS. He also accused Dr. Rajvanshi of besmirching the good name of the Prime Minister just because his name found a mention in such a context. Several complaints have apparently been lodged against Dr. Rajvanshi, mostly against his behavior and leadership.

This incident brought to fore several issues with the AIIMS Raebareli, and people question why Dr. Rajvanshi continues heading things when growing discontent screams for change. In this particular case, with the matter having reached a boiling point, many have demanded an appropriate probe into the conduct of Dr. Rajvanshi and the reassessment of the leadership at AIIMS Raebareli so that such incidents never come again.
