Air Marshal A.P. Singh Appointed Next Chief of Air Staff, Set to Take Charge on September 30

Air Marshal A.P. Singh has been appointed as the next Chief of the Air Staff of the Indian Air Force (IAF), effective September 30, 2024. Currently serving as the Vice Chief of the IAF, he will succeed Air Chief Marshal V.R. Chaudhari upon his retirement. The announcement was made by the Defence Ministry on Saturday.

Key Highlights:
Career Background: Air Marshal Singh is a distinguished alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, and National Defence College. He was commissioned into the Fighter Stream of the IAF on December 21, 1984, and boasts over 5,000 hours of flying experience across various aircraft.

Command and Testing Experience: Singh has commanded an operational fighter squadron and a key airbase. Notably, he led the MiG-29 Upgrade Project Management Team in Moscow and served as Project Director for flight testing of the Light Combat Aircraft (Tejas) at the National Flight Test Centre.

Honors and Leadership Roles: Before becoming Vice Chief on February 1, 2023, Singh held the position of Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief at Central Air Command. He is a recipient of prestigious awards, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, highlighting his significant contributions to the IAF.
