Ajmer sex Scandal: Court Hands Down Life Sentences to Six in Notorious Rape Case
A court in Rajasthan has finally delivered its verdict in the country's largest rape and blackmail case. In the high-profile case from Ajmer, six accused have been found guilty. The court has sentenced Nafees Chishti, Naseem alias Tarzan, Saleem Chishti, Iqbal Bhati, Sohel Gani, and Syed Jameer Hussain to life imprisonment. Additionally, each convict has been fined ₹5 lakh. The case involved the blackmailing of students from a prestigious school in Ajmer by taking obscene photographs of them. The perpetrators targeted more than 100 girls.
This case dates back 30 years, having started in May 1992. The first FIR in this case was filed by then-DSP Hari Prasad Sharma. The scandal not only shook Ajmer but also sent shockwaves across the country. The victims were students from a well-known college in Ajmer, who fell prey to these predators.
The Details of the Case
The mastermind behind this scandal was Farooq Chishti, then president of Ajmer Youth Congress, along with Nafees Chishti and Anwar Chishti. They, along with several others, lured a girl to their farmhouse, where they raped her and took nude photographs. The girl was then blackmailed into bringing her friends to the same location under the threat of exposing her photographs.
How the Scandal Unfolded
Fearful of their obscene photos being leaked, the girl was coerced into bringing her friends into the same trap. One victim led to another, and soon these predators had violated and blackmailed numerous innocent girls. The girls were then called to various locations and subjected to further abuse.
As the scandal began to spread, the entire city of Ajmer came to know about it. The obscene photographs of the victims began to circulate widely. Unable to bear the shame and blackmail, several girls began committing suicide, with the case becoming more severe after six to seven suicides.
How the Scandal Was Exposed
The breakthrough came when one of the victims' obscene photographs landed in the hands of Santosh Gupta, a journalist with the newspaper Dainik Navjyoti. He began investigating the matter, slowly uncovering the horrifying truth.
Bringing such a large-scale scandal to light was no easy task. However, Santosh persevered, encouraging the victims to come forward and give their statements. His dedication, combined with the courage of the victims, eventually led to justice being served and the conviction of the perpetrators.
