Amritsar Vandalizes Dr. Ambedkar's Statue - Protests ask for CBI Probe

Shocked in the latest of a wave of protests which broke out throughout the country following vandalism of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue in Amritsar, an assailant claimed responsibility for throwing the hammer blow at the statute with his hammer, besides burning the mock constitution before media persons in full public glare.
It has since provoked protests across India, led mainly by the SC community associations demanding a CBI probe.
On January 26 in the afternoon, a perpetrator has vandalised a statue kept next to the Town Hall as this man- who has now been identified and who is as 20 year old Akash Singh from Dharmkot used a hammer in destroying one statue, the very next structure containing the model of Constitution, setting the object on fire too. Prompt response of the local security personnel gave their catch at police custody end.
The act has created much disturbance, especially in the local SC communities. Protestors have gathered at Bhandari Bridge, raising slogans against the Punjab government and demanding a thorough investigation into the incident. The protestors have called for the case to be handled by the CBI, which will ensure transparency and justice.
Political leaders have condemned the vandalism.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann strongly condemned the vandalism, asserting that no one responsible for the incident would be spared. He assured that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators and instructed the authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation.

The Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Pratap Singh Bajwa, criticized the state government for not stopping such incidents. Bajwa asked for a sitting judge to conduct an inquiry into the vandalism and burning of the stone replica of the Constitution. He couldn't believe that the incident took place on Republic Day right next to the Harmandir Sahib and a police station.
Calls for Justice and Accountability
As the investigation continues, both political leaders and the public demand swift action to bring the culprits to justice. With the community and government officials expressing outrage, the focus remains on ensuring that this incident does not go unpunished and that it serves as a reminder of the need for stronger protection of national symbols and dignity.
