Arvind Kejriwal’s Major Announcement Ahead of Delhi Elections: Ambedkar Scholarship for Students

With Delhi Assembly elections approaching, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced a significant initiative to support Dalit students. In a press conference, Kejriwal unveiled the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Scholarship that will be given to Dalit students for pursuing higher education abroad.

Details of the Ambedkar Scholarship

Under this scheme, the tuition fees and travel expenses of any Dalit student from Delhi, getting admission to any university abroad, will be borne completely by the Delhi government. Kejriwal stated that the scholarship pays a tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who took up multiple PhDs abroad when faced with multiple challenges.

Political Background

Kejriwal's decision has come in the wake of political preparations for the next Delhi Assembly elections. Criticising the BJP for disrespecting Ambedkar, he has framed this scholarship program as an empowering step taken to uplift the Dalit students and also to enhance the glory of Ambedkar.
