Asked Google Maps for Directions, Ended Up in a Crash! Two Accidents at the Same Spot

A major accident has been reported on the Mathura-Bareilly Highway Thursday when two youths traveling from Bareilly to Mathura-Vrindavan were involved in an accident while crossing an under-construction road. The mishap has been attributed to faulty directions from Google Maps and the lack of diversion signs on the highway.

Two Vehicles Crash at the Same Spot

Vimlesh Srivastava and Kushav of Bareilly were using Google Maps for navigation. Alas, the app had sent them to a partially constructed incomplete route. Their car met with an accident, and the same happened to another vehicle at the same spot.

There was no diversion sign on the highway.

The accident happened in the police jurisdiction of Hathras Junction. Even though there was continuing construction work on the Highway connecting Mathura to Bareilly, there were neither diversion signs nor warning boards.

A combination of wrong guiding and administrative negligence led to further aggravation of the accident.

Seriously Injured Taken to a Hospital

Local people thronged to the spot on hearing the news and the injured are being taken for treatment in a nearby hospital.
Their condition is said to be stable.

It exposes the administrative lapses; a missing safety measure in highways. It also poses an inquiry about the navigational aids, like Google Maps. Lack of recent update information and safety boards brought together two consecutive accidents in that area.

Similar incidents were found to happen in Bihar.

This is not the first time that a faulty navigation system has caused tragedy. A similar case happened in Bihar when a car plunged into a river after Google Maps led it to a collapsed bridge. The absence of warning signs on the bridge resulted in the death of all passengers in the vehicle.
