Assam Hotels Ban Bangladeshi Guests Amid Ongoing Attacks on Hindus

In response to the continuous attacks on Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh, several hotels in Assam's Barak Valley have announced a ban on providing services to Bangladeshi nationals. They have made it clear that no Bangladeshi citizen will be accommodated until the violence against Hindu communities ceases and the situation improves.

No Entry for Bangladeshi Nationals

Barak Valley is the three districts of Cachar, Sribhumi or Karimganj, and Hailakandi, that share a 129 km border with Bangladesh's Sylhet region. December 6, 2024 Babul Roy, president of the Barak Valley Hotels and Restaurants Association, was quoted by reporters as saying, "The condition of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh is alarming. We cannot accept this.". Therefore, we have decided that until the situation improves, and atrocities against Hindus end, hotels in all three districts of the Barak Valley will refuse accommodation to citizens of the neighboring country. This is our form of protest."

Protesting Persecution Against Hindus

The people of Bangladesh must ensure stability in their own country. Only if the situation improves will we consider revisiting our decision," Roy added. Just a few days ago, the Bajrang Dal had demanded that organizers of an international exhibition in Silchar shut down two stalls selling Bangladeshi products to protest the persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh. The organizers acceded to the demand.

On December 10, 2024, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will march to the Bangladesh Embassy under the banner of the Civil Society of Delhi to protest the atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh. According to an RSS functionary, representatives from more than 200 social, cultural, and religious organizations in Delhi will join the protest march.
