Baba Vanga was born on January 31, 1911, as Vangeliya Pandeva Gushterova. She lost her eyesight when she was a child after an accident. Baba Vanga was raised in the Rupite region of the Belasica mountains in Bulgaria. She had a very tough life. Being taken away by her soldier-father for most of his World War I days away in camp, and her mother deceased very early in her life made her live with the next-door neighbors and some extended relatives. The incident and loss of her sight had been followed; she claimed that her other senses had become more heightened that she could see the world again about anything that would happen in the future.


Despite her being blind, she had been able to gather a certain reputation based on her prophecies. There are even reports which said that she was correct when she mentioned the death of Bulgaria's Tsar Boris III, and the tragic death of Princess Diana, including the very devastating tsunami back in 2004.
