Badrinath temple in Uttarakhand reopened its portals in the wee hours of Tuesday.

This comes a day after the Kedarnath shrine also reopened amid strict COVID-19 protocols.

The state of Uttarakhand had hosted the Kumbh Mela in April. The grand Mela had to be called off after witnessing a rise in its daily new Covid-19 cases.

The Uttarakhand government was also grilled over by the high court for organising religious events even during the pandemic.

Kedarnath and Badrinath temple remain among the four shrines whose portals are opened every year between April and May.

The state government on Monday extended the state-wide ‘corona curfew.’ This means that during a period, maximum 20 people will be allowed at wedding ceremonies with mandatory RT-PCR tests.
