Bahraich Idol Immersion Turns Deadly: Family Blames Police as Ramgopal Mishra Dies in Violent Clash – Did Delayed Help Seal His Fate?
Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh — Violence broke out in Maharajganj, Bahraich, during an idol immersion procession on Sunday. The clash between two groups escalated into stone-pelting, firing, and arson, leaving 22-year-old Ramgopal Mishra dead from a gunshot wound. In the aftermath, police forces have heavily deployed across the area, with all shops and businesses shut down. The victim’s family holds the police responsible, claiming that prompt action could have saved his life.
Family’s Anguish: “If Only the Police Had Helped…”
The grieving family of Ramgopal Mishra expressed their sorrow and frustration over what they say was a preventable tragedy. Speaking to reporters, the family alleged that the police did not assist them in time. Ramgopal’s relative, Pramod Kumar, recounted how he struggled to find his injured brother amidst the chaos. “We carried him to the hospital ourselves, but it was too late,” Kumar said, adding that had the police intervened, Ramgopal’s life could have been saved.
The family demands justice and has called for an encounter with the perpetrators, along with compensation for Ramgopal’s widow. They are set to meet Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, hoping for swift action.
Aftermath of the Bahraich Violence
Following the violence, the area remains under tight security, with over 30 people taken into custody. Opposition parties have criticized the government’s response, with Uttar Pradesh Congress Chief Ajay Rai condemning the administration’s failure to control the situation. Further unrest is being carefully monitored, as authorities have imposed Section 144 to prevent gatherings.
District Magistrate Monika Rani confirmed that the area has been divided into zones to maintain peace, with 12 companies of police stationed in sensitive areas. Cleanup efforts are underway, but the tension in the air remains palpable.
