Bengaluru Man Arrested for Extorting ₹2.57 Crore from Girlfriend Using Private Videos
Bengaluru Man: In a shocking case from Bengaluru, a 22-year-old man, Mohan Kumar, was arrested for extortion of ₹2.57 crores from his girlfriend in which he threatened to show her private photos and videos. The victim is said to be a 20-year-old woman who had given the complaint to the police after she was subjected to months of blackmail and harassment.
Accused Background and Modus Operandi
According to the police, Kumar and the victim were schoolmates who used to study together in a boarding school. Years after there was no communication between the two, they got in touch with each other and started dating. Kumar took the pretext of marrying her to take the victim on trips and recorded her private moments.
Once he had her intimate photos and videos, Kumar started blackmailing the victim. He demanded large sums of money and luxury items in exchange for not releasing the recordings.
How the Victim Was Exploited
The victim first sent ₹1.25 crore to Kumar's bank account through her grandmother's account. The victim also had given him ₹1.32 crores in cash in installments over several months. He also extorted from her luxury watches, jewelry, and even an expensive car.
Tortured by all this harassment, the victim lodged a complaint with the police in Bengaluru.
Police Action and Recovery of Extorted Money
Bengaluru Police arrested Mohan Kumar under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police recovered ₹80 lakh of the extorted money from the accused and are investigating further to trace the rest of the assets.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda said, "This was a well-planned crime where the accused extorted ₹2.57 crore. We are investigating the matter further and ensuring justice for the victim.
