Bengaluru Faces Rain Alert as Cyclone Fengal’s Impact Sparks School Closure Demands

Bengaluru Faces Rain: The India Meteorological Department has issued an intense rain alert for Bengaluru and parts of South Interior Karnataka due to the heavy rain forecast on Monday. According to meteorologists, the downpour is a result of Cyclone Fengal, which made landfall along the Tamil Nadu coast during the night of November 30, 2024. In its warning, the IMD has sounded an alarm for very heavy rainfall across Bengaluru and its surroundings, creating apprehension about disruptions to daily life.

Schools will be Open Today

In spite of the warnings by the IMD, schools and colleges in Bengaluru are set to open as usual today. No official word was issued on the closure. This has made parents anxious and furious, who took up the matter on social networking site X, formerly Twitter.
This means many parents express their frustration and lamentation of why the government hasn't declared a holiday for the schools. One of the users tweeted, "Terrible weather in Bengaluru. Can't understand why the government has not declared a holiday for schools today." The other user posted, "@DC_BUrban Please declare a holiday for Bengaluru schools. It is raining continuously, and we are worried about our children's safety." Some of the users have commented sarcastically, "Since the Sun is shining bright today, the meteorology dept has decided that schools will remain fully functional in Bengaluru."

IMD's Update on Cyclone Fengal's Impact

The IMD has issued a bulletin that reports that the depression, the leftover of Cyclone Fengal, was moving west-northwest at 7 km/h.
