Bibhas Nayak News: A 29-year-old HR manager from St Stephen’s Hospital, New Delhi, tragically lost his life while trying to protect two women from a sexual assault attempt in Sanapur village, Karnataka. He was thrown into a canal by the attackers on March 6, and his body was recovered on March 9.

Who Was Bibhas Nayak?

Originally from Derabadi village in Kandhamal, Odisha, Bibhas was the son of BK Nayak, bishop of Agra diocese and moderator of Church of North India (CNI) Synod. He studied at Stewart School, Bhubaneswar, completed his BBA from Madras Christian College, and later earned an MBA from Mumbai.

Known for his kindness, adventurous spirit, and faith, Bibhas had traveled across India on his bicycle. He was unmarried and deeply passionate about traveling.

The Incident in Karnataka

Bibhas had befriended the two women and three other travelers during his trip to Sanapur near Hampi. On the night of the attack, the group—including an Israeli woman, a US citizen, a man from Maharashtra, and a female homestay operator—was stargazing near a canal.

Suddenly, three men attacked the women. Bibhas stepped in to defend them, but the attackers overpowered him and threw him into the canal. While his two male companions escaped, Bibhas tragically drowned.

Family and Friends Mourn His Loss

His death has left his family, friends, and colleagues in shock. His cousin, Firoz Pradhan, shared that Bibhas had last visited Kandhamal three months ago. Church members described him as a true embodiment of Christian values, while colleagues remembered him as a humble and kind-hearted person.

Investigation and Funeral

Following the discovery of his body, Karnataka police arrested the suspects involved in the crime. His family has demanded a fair investigation and justice for his sacrifice.

Bibhas's funeral was held in G Udayagiri town, Kandhamal, Odisha, where loved ones gathered to bid him a tearful farewell. His brother-in-law, Akash Paul, expressed hope that such crimes never happen again.

His bravery and sacrifice have sparked national attention, with many calling for strict action against the culprits. His family and community members continue to seek justice, ensuring that his heroic act is not forgotten.
