In the 2024-25 budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a significant financial boost for Bihar, proposing an allocation of Rs 26,000 crore for various road projects in the state. The funding will come from aid provided by multilateral development agencies. Additionally, the Centre plans to develop airports, medical colleges, and sports infrastructure in Bihar.
The budget includes the launch of 'Purvodaya,' a comprehensive development plan for Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh. The plan aims to enhance regional development by supporting key projects such as the Amritsar-Kolkata industrial corridor, which will see an industrial hub established in Gaya, Bihar. This initiative is expected to stimulate growth in the eastern region.
The budget also proposes Rs 21,400 crore for new infrastructure projects in Bihar, including road connectivity improvements like the Patna-Purnea expressway, the Buxar-Bhagalpur highway, and a new two-lane bridge over the Ganga in Buxar. Furthermore, the government will introduce e-vouchers with a 3% interest subsidy for 100,000 students annually.
