Bilaspur: Train Diverts Due to Husband-Wife Dispute, Railway Faces ₹3 Crore Loss

Curiously, such a case has now surfaced in Chhattisgarh where a husband-wife dispute has led to a big loss for the railway department, just amounting to ₹3 crore. It even led to the suspension of a railway employee. The case began when a wife of a station master had a row with her husband over the telephone while he was at his duty.

Since she asked him to come home to resolve the issue, the other station masterheard her as having requested a train be sent. This resulted in the train going on the wrong route. The massive loss was because of the wrong route taken. When the husband came up with a statement that his wife's behavior came under mental cruelty and filed a divorce, it went legal. They married in 2011, and the relationship had gone bad as the wife had indulged an affair with the librarian. She, however, did not abandon her contact with her lover. She remained in touch and continued her mental harassment of the husband. Here again, this husband applied for divorce before the family court of Visakhapatnam.

She lodged a complaint with the police alleging dowry harassment against him along with his family members. The case was transferred to the Durg family court, where the petition filed by the husband was dismissed. On appeal before the High Court, the High Court held that her causing a train mishap by bringing false accusations would amount to mental cruelty. The High Court allowed the husband's divorce petition on the grounds that her conducts proved harmful to his mental well-being.
