BJP Accuses Sonia Gandhi of Links to Soros-Funded Group Supporting Kashmir Independence
The Bharatiya Janata Party accused Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday of having relations with an organization that had financing from the George Soros Foundation as it has been stated earlier that the latter supports Kashmir independence. This has created a political row amid claims by the BJP of 'foreign influence' in internal policy matters of India, particularly related issues concerning Kashmir.
According to the BJP, Sonia Gandhi’s position as co-president of the Forum of Democratic Leaders in Asia Pacific (FDL-AP) Foundation links her to an organisation funded by the George Soros Foundation, which has expressed support for Kashmir’s independence. The BJP also pointed to Sonia Gandhi’s involvement with the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, alleging a partnership with the George Soros Foundation that could potentially sway India's political landscape.
BJP leaders argued on social media platform X that these organizations were foreign funded and aiming to destabilize India's economy and undermine the government. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey declared that in the Lok Sabha, he will ask some questions to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding these ties and their implication on India's sovereignty and political integrity.
The BJP further condemned the live press conference of Rahul Gandhi over business tycoon Adani, live streamed by the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP)—a media portal funded by the George Soros Foundation. The party believes this relationship between opposition leaders and foreign entities, including Soros, could be detrimental to India's reputation and economy.
The US government reacted to this by rejecting BJP's claims and stating that it is committed to freedom of the media all over the world and has no intention of destabilizing India. But the BJP sticks to its claim, arguing that foreign powers, through such groups as OCCRP and Soros-backed entities, are controlling Indian politics.
