Manmohan Singh Memorial Controversy: BJP Criticizes Congress for Politicizing the Issue
Manmohan Singh Memorial Controversy: BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi criticized Congress for politicizing the issue of a memorial for former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. He urged Congress not to play politics in this time of grief and stated that the Narendra Modi-led NDA government is fully committed to honoring Dr. Singh's legacy.
BJP's Stand on Manmohan Singh's Memorial
Trivedi emphasized that after the death of Dr. Manmohan Singh, the entire nation mourned, and the NDA government has decided to build a memorial and Samadhi to honor him. The decision was made in the Cabinet meeting, and the details were shared with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge after the meeting. Trivedi clarified that although the process will take time, the government is committed to completing it.
BJP's Criticism of Congress
Trivedi expressed his disappointment with Congress, accusing them of politicizing Dr. Singh's memorial. He pointed out that Congress never honored Dr. Singh during his lifetime and even today, after his death, the party is turning the issue into a political matter. He also reminded that Dr. Singh was the first Prime Minister outside the Nehru-Gandhi family to serve a full 10-year term.
Memorial Location Dispute
The controversy over the location of Dr. Manmohan Singh's memorial continues, with Congress pushing for a site near the Yamuna River, where other Prime Ministers have been honored. However, the BJP stated that the government is working to find an appropriate place for the memorial, acknowledging that it may take some time, but it will certainly be constructed.
