Amar Kishore Kashyap Video Viral: BJP Issues Show-Cause Notice Over "Indecent Conduct"

A controversial viral video from Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh has caused commotion in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The clip, shot apparently inside the BJP's Gonda district office, appears to depict BJP leader Amar Kishore Kashyap hugging a woman party worker — a scene which has now gone viral on social media.

On the April 12 CCTV footage, there is a woman dressed traditionally who comes up the stairs within the office building, followed by Amar Kishore Kashyap. On occasion, he puts his hand on her shoulder before hugging her. The incident caught on tape has quickly been shared online, bringing shame to the party.

The clip, now being referred to as "amar kishore kashyap video viral," has stirred the state leadership of the BJP to act quickly. Amar Kishore has received a show-cause notice for "indiscipline" and "violation of party decorum."

The notice, which has been sent by BJP state general secretary Govind Narayan Shukla, says that the act has brought disrepute to the party and comes under "gross misconduct." Kashyap has been asked to put in writing his explanation within seven days, or else strict action against him may be initiated.

In his defense, BJP leader Amar Kishore provided a very unconvincing reason. He stated,

"She is a diligent party worker. She rang me and complained of illness and fatigue. I summoned her to the office. When she was climbing the stairs, she became dizzy, so I gave her support."

He added further:

"If we do not help our party workers, then who will? And if aiding someone is made a crime, then I have nothing to say."

Even if his justification is accepted, a number of party members have been reportedly outraged and labeled the episode "embarrassing" and hurtful to the party's "moral image."

The event has evoked a broader public debate concerning behavior, decorum, and public conduct by elected representatives, particularly the maintenance of the party's values and discipline.
