BJP Takes Major Action in Punjab, Expels Former Cabinet Minister Bhagat Chunni Lal and Other Leaders

In a major move to enforce party discipline, the BJP has expelled twelve leaders in Punjab, including ex-Cabinet Minister Bhagat Chunni Lal, for engaging in activities against the party’s interests. The expulsions were announced after the Jalandhar BJP core committee reviewed the cases and decided on a six-year ban for each individual.

In a major decision to ensure party discipline and organizational integrity, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled a dozen of its leaders in Punjab, including former Cabinet Minister Bhagat Chunni Lal. The expulsions, effective immediately for a duration of six years, were carried out due to alleged anti-party activities and misconduct within the state cadre.

The disciplinary action taken by the BJP resulted in the removal of several key figures from the party's Punjab unit. Those expelled include:

Party's Statement

In a statement, the BJP claimed that the above expulsions were after a detailed deliberation taken by the Jalandhar BJP core committee. The decision was supported by key party leaders, including Punjab BJP chief Vijay Rupani, national secretary and MLA Narendra Raina, among others. The statement also underscored that the expelled leaders had indulged in activities which were detrimental to the party's interests and ethos, which necessitated strict punitive measures to deter such behavior in future
