The Bombay High Court on February 17, 2021, granted three weeks transit anticipatory bail to Mumbai-based lawyers and environmental activist Nikita Jacob.
She is facing arrest against a non-bailable warrant issued by the Tees Hazari court in connection with a toolkit case related to the ongoing farmers’ protest.
She would be released on Rs. 25, 000 personal bond and one same surety amount in case she is arrested by the police.
Nikita Jacob, Disha Ravi, and Shantanu Muluk had prepared the toolkit to tarnish the image of the country. They were in direct contact with the “Pro Khalistan element” during that process, Delhi Police had alleged on Monday.
The toolkit aimed to secure international support for the ongoing farmers’ protest against three new Agri laws passed by the government of India.
A zoom meet was attended by Poetic Justice Foundation founder Mo Dhaliwal, Disha Ravi, and other activists before Republic Day, environment activist Nikita Jacob had told the court on February 16, 20212.
The toolkit prepared by Extinction Rebellion (XR) India volunteers was aimed to simplify the whole picture related to farmers’ protest for the international audience, she had claimed in a document submitted by her lawyer to the Mumbai Police.
“The applicant apprehends that she will be arrested at any point in time. She has to make arrangements to seek relief from a court in another state. Hence, this court is of the opinion that protection as sought by the applicant can be granted for a temporary period,” Justice Naik said.
